LCD shutter glasses
LCD shutter glasses are an advanced version of 3D glasses that allow people to see three-dimensional images on their computer screens. They work together with the computer screen to create three-dimensional objects. The viewer can only see things in 3D while wearing the LCD shutter glasses. The lenses in the glasses darken and lighten in time with the refresh rate of the computer screen.
Liquid crystal and a polarizing filter contained in the lenses cause this change to happen. An IR emitter sends out a signal which causes the glasses to darken over one eye and then switch to the other depending on what the computer monitor is doing. The computer itself shows different views to match up with the change in the glasses.
The two combined create the 3D illusion that we see on the screen. It is much like the paper 3D glasses that go with 3D movies at the movie theater, except LCD shutter glasses produce a more realistic image.
